Create a myGov account
Go to my.gov.au โ†’ Create account. Verify email and link ATO service.

Check TFN is linked
Confirm your TFN (Tax File Number) is linked to ATO. Apply at ato.gov.au if you don't have one (free, 28 days).

Lodge a tax return
myGov โ†’ ATO โ†’ Lodgements โ†’ Income tax. Select the tax year and enter income and deductions.

Add bank account
Enter AU bank account or overseas account for refund. Wise AU virtual account recommended.

Refund within 2 weeks
Online lodgements are usually processed within 2 weeks. ATO sends an SMS notification.

Superannuation DASP Refund
Your employer contributed super while you worked in Australia. A 65% withholding tax applies to DASP claims, but it's still worth claiming.

Locate your Super Fund

Apply via ATO DASP portal
Apply directly at ato.gov.au/dasp or contact each Super Fund. Processing takes 4โ€“6 weeks.
